My housemates and I was graced with the presents of a Direct Energy representative/ general manager. If any of them ever knock on your door, let them in! It was an interesting spiel and I think they have a great company. According to their website Direct Energy “is a leading supplier of Electricity and Natural Gas Products. Direct Energy is one of North America’s largest competitive energy suppliers of electricity, natural gas and related services. Direct Energy helps customers effectively manage all of their energy needs. Direct Energy operates in 10 Canadian provinces and 46 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia, with more than six million customer relationships.” Simple. Friendly. Direct. is one of their slogans and I believe it (so far)! He explained while using a previous ComEd bill, how much we can save and why it works. “I’m a big believer in math,” he stated as he showed us the figures. ComEd still gets paid, they get paid and you save! Direct energy is not affiliated with your utility company. The best part is: it’s completely free and risk free. No credit card or information was necessary to sign up. As the Rep was saying, his agents and staff are highly trained and educated professionals. I thought he was very knowledgeable and friendly! He told us that they just started in Illinios about 8 weeks ago. The company started in 1991. One of their headquarters is located in Houston, Texas.
www.directenergy.com had bunch of great information on how to be energy efficient with energy reduction tips for residential and businesses. Check out their corporate responsibility page: “we work to embed the principles and practices of sustainability and community into our business processes” and view their 2010 Corporate Responsibility Report. To help explain the concept of direct energy to me, my roommate said that they are like the Sam’s Club of energy. The Direct energy retailer gets the energy straight from the producers, surpassing Transmission companies and local utility, to reduce costs. These reductions in costs get passed to the customers (me!). Like Sam’s Club surpasses grocery retails and gets their products direct from the wholesale manufacturer (or something like that). Anyway, I will keep this updated on how Direct Energy lives up to their promises.
